THE HOLY QURAN – PART 14

QURAN & SAYYIDA FATIMAH AL-ZAHRA (A.S.)

HER VIEWS ABOUT THE HOLY QURAN:

When Fadak, the property which the Holy Prophet (saww) had gifted to his one and only daughter Fatimah (a.s.) was snatched away from her, she (a.s.) felt grieved by this action. Accompanied by some women, Fatimah (a.s.) came to the Mosque and delivered a lengthy speech.

The following is an abstract of what Sayyida Fatimah (a.s.) spoke about the Holy Quran in her sermon:

“A covenant He brought unto you, and an heir He left to guard you; That is the eloquent Book of Allah; The truthful Quran; The brilliant light; The shining beam; Its insight are indisputable; Its secrets are revealed; Its indications are manifest; and its followers are blessed by it. (The Quran) leads its adherents to goodwill; and hearing it leads to salvation; with it are the bright divine authorities achieved, His manifest determination acquired, His prohibited decrees avoided; His manifest evidence recognized; His satisfying proofs made apparent, His permissions granted and His laws written…” (‘Ilal al-Sharai’)

HER RECITATION OF THE HOLY QURAN:

It is reported from Imam Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Baqir (a.s.) that one day, the Holy Prophet (saww) sent Salman al-Farsi (r.a.) to the house of his one and only beloved daughter Sayyida Fatimah (a.s.). Salman narrates:

“I arrived at her door step and offered my salutations. I heard that Fatimah (a.s.) was in her room reciting the Holy Quran and I witnessed that the handle of the mill worked on its own (without anyone) crushing the grain into flour…. when I informed the Holy Prophet (saww) about it, he (saww) smiled and said, “O Salman! Allah (SWT) has filled the heart and every part and organ of my daughter with faith. Whenever she is engrossed in the obedience of Allah (SWT), He (SWT) sends angels to help her (in her affairs)”. (Manaqib Aali Abi Talib)

HER LAST WILL ABOUT THE HOLY QURAN:

Reporting from his father and forefathers, Imam Ja’ffar ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (a.s.) has said, “When Sayyida Fatimah (a.s.) was on her deathbed, she (a.s.) said to Imam ‘Ali (a.s.) in her will: “After my death, you wash my body; put the shroud upon me and say the funeral prayer. Thereafter, bury me with your own hands; and once you have covered me with soil, sit by my grave on the side of my head facing towards my face and recite the Holy Quran. This is the most crucial time when the dead require the favours of those who are alive… (Misbaah al-Anwaar)

It was in the following of the Sunnah of Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (a.s.) that ‘Allama Hilly (QS) had mentioned in his will to his son Fakhrul-Muhaqqiqeen that: “Do your level best to visit my grave (often) and recite few verses from the Holy Quran upon it”. (Quran-o-‘Itrat)

ENTERING PARADISE WHILST RECITING THE QURAN:

Salman al-Farsi (r.a.) once asked the Holy Prophet (saww) to describe the position and status of his beloved daughter Sayyida Fatimah (a.s.) on the day of Judgement. The Holy Prophet (saww) smiled and expressed his joy over this and said,

“By Him in whose hand is my life! Indeed Fatimah will arrive on the day of Judgement riding on camel. On her right will be Jibrael and on her left will be Mikaeel. ‘Ali (her spouse) will be infront of her and Hasanayn (her two sons) shall be walking behind her. Allah, the Exalted will be her protector.

Then a voice will be heard: ‘O people of Mahshar! Lower your gazes and bow your heads down for Fatimah – the daughter of your Prophet, the wife of your Imam, and the mother of Hasanayn is coming. They will then pass (the bridge of) Siraat with Fatimah (a.s.) fully covered by two pieces of white garment and they will enter paradise. When her eyes will fall upon all the bounties that awaits her, Fatimah (a.s.) will recite the following verse from the Holy Quran: ‘They will say: All praise belongs to Allah, who has removed all grief from us. Indeed our Lord is All-forgiving, All-appreciative, who has settled us in the everlasting abode by His grace. In it we are untouched by toil, and untouched therein by fatigue’. (35:35-36)”. (Safeenatul-Bihaar)
