AL-HASSAN
(A.S) & THE HOLY PROPHET (SAWW):
One day,
the Holy Prophet (saww) was seen carrying al-Hassan on his shoulders and
saying, “O Allah! I love him, so You also
love him”. (Al-Bukhari/Al-Muslim)
Abdullah
bin Shaddad narrates:
One day,
the Holy Prophet (saww) came to the mosque to lead ‘Isha prayer and
al-Hassan was with him. When the Prophet (saww) went into sajda, he
extended it long. We thought he was receiving a revelation from Allah.
Later on, he (saww) informed us that al-Hassan had mounted his back
(whilst in sajda) and that he had prolonged the sajda to let al-Hassan
get off by himself. (Al-Nisa-i)
HIS FEAR
OF ALLAH (SWT):
Whenever
al-Hassan (a.s)would perform his ablution (wudhu), he would tremble and
his face would become pale. He was asked about it and he (a.s) replied,
“It is only natural that one who stands in
the presence of the Lord of the Throne turns ashen, and trembles…”
(Rawdhah al-Waidheen)
HIS
KNOWLEDGE:
Once a
man came to Ibn ‘Abbas and Ibn ‘Umar and asked them for the
interpretation for the two words: Shaahid & Mash-hood in
the Holy Quran.
Shaahid
means
“witness”.
Mash-hood
means
“one who is witnessed”.
Ibn
‘Abbas said that Shaahid stood for the day of Jumu’ah (Friday)
and Mash-hood referred to the day of ‘Arafah.
Ibn ‘Umar
said that Shaahid stood for the day of Jumu’ah (Friday) but
Mash-hood referred to the day of sacrifice in Hajj.
The man
then put the same question to Imam al-Hassan (a.s) who said that
Shaahid refers to the Holy Prophet (saww) and Mash-hood
refers to the Day of Judgement. When asked for a proof, Imam al-Hassan
(a.s) recited the following two verses from the Holy Quran:
“O Prophet! Surely We have sent you as a witness and as bearer of good
news and as a warner..”
(33:45)-This
verse shows that Shaahid (witness) is the Holy Prophet (saww).
“This is the day on which people shall be gathered together and this is
a day that shall be witnessed”.
(11:103)-This
verse shows that Mash-hood (witnessed) is the Day of Judgement.
When the
man heard this, he said, “The reply of al-Hassan was better”. (Matalib
al-Suaal)
HIS
CHARACTER:
The most
eminent of his attributes is his Sakhaa meaning “generosity”.
Once somebody asked him, “We do not see you disappoint a beggar.
Why?” al-Hassan (a.s) replied, “I am
asking Allah for His favours, and I love to be near Him. I am ashamed as
I am myself in need of Allah, to repulse a beggar. Allah got me used to
a habit; to shower me with His bounties, and I get Him used to me
showering His bounties on the people. I fear that should I stop my
habit, He may stop His habit”. (Ahsan al-Maqaal)
On the occasion of the martyrdom of Imam al-Hassan (a.s), we extend our
heartfelt condolences to Imam-e-Zamana (AJ) and to all the Muslims and
Shia’hs of Ahlul-Bayt (a.s). Ahsanallahu Lakumul-‘Azaa.
