AL-LIWAAT (SODOMY) - PART 7

WAYS TO SAFEGUARD FROM SODOMY:

The following are guidelines which Islam has given to safeguard oneself from the wicked act of Sodomy:-

Cover your shame and do not expose your private parts infront of others.

Some people have the tendency of uncovering their private parts particularly infront of the members of their own sex. It should be borne that according to Islam, to expose one’s private parts or to look at others is Haraam.

“Say (O Muhammad) to the believing men to lower their eyes and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Verily Allah is aware of what they do.

And say to the believing women to lower their eyes, guard their private parts, and not display their adornment….” (24:30-31)

“Successful indeed are the believers, Those who in their prayers are humble, Those who turn away from vain, Those who are active in deeds of purification, And those who guard their private parts……..”   (23:1-5)

The most common place where people of the same sex normally expose their bodies infront of each other is in changing rooms. Be it the changing room of swimming pools, schools, colleges, universities, offices etc. The growing belief particularly in the children and youths who are highly influenced by the western culture is that since all men are physically alike (the same applies to women) there is no harm in being nude infront of the members of the same sex. This belief is totally against the teachings of Islam.

Islam teaches Hayaa (modesty/shame). In fact, the Holy Prophet (saw) has recommended that one must cover his private parts when bathing even if there is no one looking. For everything, there is an angel and the same goes for the water which Allah (SWT) has created. One should therefore, feel shy to uncover before the angel. This is the height of Hayaa which Islam preaches.

The Holy Prophet (saw) has said: “Refrain from entering Hamam (public bath) without covering the private parts. For verily whoever enters into a public bath without covering, both, the Nadhir and Mandhoor are cursed (by Allah)”. (Makarim al-Akhlaq)

In the olden days, there used to be public baths where people would go to shower and pay for the facility. In modern days, this can apply to changing rooms and shower places for public.

In the above tradition, Nadhir refers to an onlooker (one who looks) and Mandhoor refers to the one who is looked at. Therefore,  the one who looks at the private parts of others and the one who is looked at, both have been cursed.

Why?? Shaytan can easily tempt and lure such people into the wicked act of homosexuality.
