SAYYIDA ZAYNAB (A.S)

On the aupcious occasion of the meelad (birth) of Sayyida Zaynab (as), we extend our felicitations to our 12th Imam, Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi, Sahibul-Asr (aj) and to all the followers of Ahlul-bayt (as).

Birth     : Thursday 5th Jamadil-Awwal 6 A.H. in Madinatul-Munawwarah

Father  :  Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (as)

Mother : Sayyida Fatima az-Zahra (as)

Death   :  14th Rajab 62 A.H. in Sham, Damascus at the age of 56 years

Zaynab means an ornament or an adornment of her father. This name was given to her by Allah (SWT) through His messenger who was alive at the time of her birth. Her titles were:

Siddiqa meaning the truthful one.

Sabirah meaning the patient one.

Aqeelatu Bani Hashim meaning the most intellegent of Bani Hashim.

Sayyida Zaynab (as) possessed vast knowledge of Divinely laws. She was a Mufassir of the Holy Qur’an and also a Muhadditha who related and explained the prophetic narrations. She was considered to be the most authentic source of hadeeth during her life.

AN INCIDENT OF HER CHILDHOOD

During her childhood, Sayyida Zaynab (as)  once asked her father, “o’father, do you love me ?”

“ofcourse I do love you” replied her father.

The child put another question immediately, “Do you also love Allah?”

“ofcourse” came the father’s reply.

The child promptly asked, “o’father, how is it possible to harbour two loves in one heart?”

Her father said, “Dear child,I love you because it is Allah’s command to love one’s children. In loving you, I love Allah”.

POSITIVE THINKING

A pilgrim at Najaf went to see Sheikh Mohamed Hassan Najafi, the great learned aalim of the time. When he reached there, he found the Sheikh’s house elegantly designed and the Sheikh too had dressed up elegantly with pomp and splendour. The pilgrim was very impressed. He then went to another great aalim and learned mujtahid of the time, Sheikh Murtaza Ahmad but found the sheikh’s house ordinary and the sheikh too had worn very simple clothes.

At this the pilgrim could not control his thoughts and asked Sheikh Murtaza,

“How is that Sheikh Mohamed Hassan lives so pompously and you live in such a humble manner?”

The great Mujtahid replied,

“Sheikh Mohamed is the glory of Shari’ah and I am the piety thereof”

Moral of the story is that we should always be positive about others and never try to score points over others.
