My dearest brother Abbas

By: Sayed Ali Al-Mousawi Al-Khalkhali

My dearest brother Abbas,
My standard-bearer Abbas,
Abbas my brother Abbas,
Abbas my brother Abbas.

***
I’ll never understand,
How it felt to fall on that land,
On that red hot sand,
Without any hands.
***
Your loss is such great pain,
Tears drop like the rain,
Abbas, don’t leave me alone,
For you are my backbone.
Without you how can I cope,
You were my only hope,
Life’s hard now that you’ve gone,
Abbas, my back has broke.
***
Hussein, remove the blood,
Around my eyes they flood,
So for a last time I see,
The lovely face of thee.
***
Abbas, I have a request,
Before you meet the rest, Before you leave this nest,
To call me Ya Akhi,
You never said that to me.
***
We’ve lost someone who’s dear,
Abbas is no more here,
Your loss is so hard to bear,
Clothes of grief I shall wear.
***
Surely you’ve passed the test,
You are among the best,
Remembering you is a must,
On that day help us.
***
From Abbas we must learn,
Now that it is our turn,
How to remove that nafs,
How to clean ourselves.
