Umm e Rabab's final lullaby

By: Sister Mardhiya

Sleep my little one,
sleep in relief;
in your ever beaming love,
I shall forever believe.
close your beautiful eyes and greet the angels,
lie close to my heart;
amidst my maternal cuddles.

May I be sacrificed for you,
my little shining star!
My flourishing hope you truly are.
Allah placed you in me,
to bloom and grow;
and connected us two by love and marrow.

Days passed by,
and in code of years;
until signs of your awaited arrival appeared.
By God; it were so blissful and sweet,
the moment my eyes with yours did meet.

Your tiny hands I greatly adored;
with your innocent smiles,
my life glimmered.
Your father held you in his arms;
glorified the Lord for your immense charms.

He named you by his father's name;
his fourth Ali you became.
I loved you deeply in my heart;
You were my little Ali;
my little sweetheart!

I would place you in your cradle at night;
and gently swing it till daylight.
I would stay by your side during the stormy times;
and sing for you the gentle rhymes.

You would open your eyes,
and climb onto my lap;
and I, would caress you and rub your back.
Alas, my Ali you abandoned your mother,
from my sight you departed farther.

But I am a mother and shall sing you a lullaby;
even if it were destined to be read under the blazing sun.
Sleep my child, sleep with peace;
fear not; for your mother is near you.
