AlMujtaba Islamic Poetry > The Tragedy of Karbala

The Whole World Cousins

By: Farah Layla Hussain

Muharrum has come, with its black clothes, majalisis and amals.
It’s a time of reflection and remorse, to mark the course of your life for the next twelve months.

We start the year not with marry-making, laughter and parties, but with tears and the attitude as if someone has died in your family.

Kerbala! Kerbala! Kerbala! Tears, Tears, Tears, and hearing Alathash, Alathash, Alathash, Thirst, Thirst, Thirst! Echoing through your ears heart and soul!

So come console Bibi Fatimah the holy mother of the grandson of the Prophet, come cry with her for her loved ones.

Though the battle was fierce and enduring, it was a sacrifice that with out it we wouldn’t have the light of Islam to guide us and show us the right way, we wouldn’t have that today.

So thank Hussain for what he endured and sacrificed, for this was indeed Dhibhul Azim, the divine sacrifice.

Cry for him, his family and friends, for what he witnessed and has done for mankind.

And on that tragic day of Ashurah the whole world cried!
