Al-Kawthar: SAYYIDA FATIMA AL-ZAHRA (A.S.)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Indeed We have given you AL-KAWTHAR

So pray to your Lord and offer sacrifice (to Him)

Indeed it is your enemy that is ABTAR (108:1-3)

The chapter of Al-Kawthar (108) is one of the shortest Surahs of the Holy Quran. Some Mufassireen say it was revealed in Madina and according to some, it was revealed in Makkah. But from the nature of this Surah and given its background, there appears no doubt that this Surah was revealed in Makkah.

On the Martyrdom of Fatima al-Zahra alayhas-salam

The final messenger of Allah to humanity – the holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his pure family, had been the target of many assassination attempts, which thankfully failed to materialise.  In their relentless endeavour to eliminate the prophet of mercy to mankind, the forces of evil eventually succeeded to murder the Messenger of Allah by poisoning.  The first signs of the fatal illness appeared on Thursday 24th Safar, 11 Hejri, after the poison was administered to him the day before.  By Monday 28th Safar the prophet succumbed to death.

Thereupon, since Prophethood can only be assigned to someone through Divine specification, likewise Caliphate cannot be assigned to anyone by mankind; rather, it is a Divine code bestowed upon men by Divine specification.

The Grievances of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (A.S.)

The short life of Fatimah (as), which lasted no more than twenty years according to some historians, was filled with much suffering and grave crises. If we talk about the suffering and hardships in her daily living, we also need to talk about what was worse than that: the calamities and grievances which she suffered after the death of her father - something which opened a bleeding wound in the Islamic nation, and which in turn was the cause of the painful wounds that followed - one of the worst of which was the murder of the Master of the Youth of Paradise Imam al-Husain (A.S.)and his progeny in the desert of Kerbala' and the taking of the women and children as captives to al-Sham (Damascus), driven like slaves. These grievances have been narrated by both the Sunnah and Shi'ah, and the numerous narrations which speak about her grievances and injustices coincide, even to the level of mutawatir.[19]

An introduction to third infallible Hazrat Fatima Zahra (SA)

Woman in the Mirror of History

From the study of history we find the fact that in the previous age woman was considered to be a part of wealth and property. She used to be sold and purchased like any property or animal. Illiterate Arabs of the pre-Islamic era considered woman the cause of bad luck and misfortune and buried the innocent girls alive. But Islam declared this consideration and notion wrong and unjustified. The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) fought strongly against such wrong conceptions. He considered woman as a human being like the man and that she too has the human, freedom and social rights. No body has the right to insult and look down upon her. Regretfully, the Western countries and capitalists even today imagine her to be the medium of enjoyment and time passing. On the other hand, woman in a few Islamic countries have been restrictively chained up which is also against the law of Islam, such as, they do not allow her to go to schools or visit the libraries and they do not have any ties and relations with the society, with the exception of their attending the mourning ceremonies of Imam Hussain (A.S.). Consequently, such absurdities and superstitions came into existence pushing woman into the cave of ignorance and darkness. This is the very reason why, when the imperialism raised the slogan of woman freedom, she could not conceive and understand what kind of voice it was? From where it is originated? What was the meaning of this slogan?

A Brief Biography of Lady Fatima Az-Zahra(as) , The daughter of the Last Messenger (pbuh&hf) , and the Mother of the Imams (as)

Fatima Az-Zahra

Most historians agree Lady Fatima was born five years after Prophethood, on the 20th of Jumada-Al-Thani in Mekkah. Fatima was one of the four daughters of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf) and his first wife, Khadijah bint-Khuwailid (as). Fatima’s relationship with her father had set an exemplary model of a father-daughter relationship; he showered her with admiration and love. Upon his return home from journeys the Prophet visited Fatima before going home. And Fatima was the last person whom the Prophet used to bid farewell before his expeditions. When she approached her father he would rush to greet her, kiss her hand, and offer her his seat.* As a child she remained by his side and remained so throughout her short-lived adulthood. Fatima married her cousin, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as), of which the Prophet said: “I give you in marriage to the first Muslim and best mannered man.” ** Fatima and Imam Ali had two sons, Imam Hassan (as) and Imam Hussein (as), and two daughters Zeinab (as) and Um Kulthum (as).

Allah's Messenger Reveals Fatima's Future to Her

It was natural for the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) who knew and foretold the future events, to reveal to his family, especially his beloved daughter Fatima (A.S.), the events which they would face in the future. He (P.B.U.H.) undoubtedly informed Fatima (A.S.) that she was going to suffer from the harsh treatment of some so called Muslims after his death and that she would be the first to follow him to the blessings of Paradise after his departure.

AZ-ZAKIYAH

AL- SIDDIQAH
(THE HONEST)

We have already mentioned that one of Fatima’s names was Siddiqah. This word means a woman with scrupulous honesty or sincerity.
Siddiqah differs from the word Sadooq, in that the first is scrupulous and precise in telling facts. Furthermore, several other meanings have been given to the word Siddiqah; among them are:

  1. She who is a truth - teller.

  2. She who never lies.

  3. She whose deeds conform to her words.

  4. She who never lied, because she is used to truthfulness.

  5. A woman with scrupulous speech and beliefs, and whose deeds conform to her words

  6. She who believes in the commands of Allah and His Prophet’s, without doubting any of them.

This last opinion is supported by the following Quranic verse:
"And those who believe in Allah and His apostles; they are the sincere (Siddiqin)." LVII:19.

First of all, it should be explained that angels speak, appear, and can be heard by others than prophets.

It is written in the Holy Quran:

1. "Behold! the angels said: 'O Mary! God hath chosen thee and purified thee-chosen thee above the women of all nations. O Mary! Worship thy Lord devoutly: prostrate thyself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down." (3: 42-43)

AR-RADHIAH

Accepting what Allah ordains for one’s self, is considered an excellent degree of belief in Allah-Glory be to Him. Throughout her difficult life, Lady Fatima Zahra (A.S.) was delighted with whatever Allah Almighty ordained for her. In fact, this book specializes in discussing the inflictions and disasters, which befell Fatima from the day she was born until she was martyred at a young age. During the difficult stages of her life, Fatima was content with the fear, oppression, deprivation, poverty, sorrows and pains that Allah had predestined for her.

After the Prophet (S.A)

After the Prophet's death, events continued to occur. When studying the era following the Prophet's death, history speaks of the wonders which occurred. Indeed, history tells us about "Apostasy" which included the majority of Muslims who objected to Abu Bakr's seize of power from its righteous candidate, Ali Ibn Abu Talib .It also tells us how Fatima's rights were usurped- especially in Fadak-and how Ali was dragged to the Mosque to pay allegiance to Abu Bakr!! History tells us how Fatima's house was set on fire by him who yesterday pretended not to believe in her father's death. Yes, history tells us how the Prophet (p.b.u.h ) died and with him died his repeated warnings to those who would oppress his family members and that they will be met with the warth of Allah. It also tells us of Lady Fatima's sadness and misery which she suffered after the death of her dear father.

Fatima: Qurataainil Rasool

In life, we need role models for us to follow. A role model can be someone who possesses special traits such as good character or those who make a significant change to the society. It is recommended that the lives of the Ahlubayt be adopted into our everyday lives. This is because they excelled in every aspect. To be a better muslimah, a better daughter, wife or mother, one should study the life of Fatima tuz Zahra (as). She is our role model, the leader of women of all times.

Let us look into this holy verse:

If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge Hath come to thee, say: "Come! Let us gather together, - our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: Then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!" (Holy Quran 3:61)

Fatima Az-Zahraa (a.s.) Blessed Birth

The month of Jamadiul Akhir is the month of The Lady of Light.  Sayyidati Fatimatu Zzahra (a.s.) the only daughter of the Prophet (s.a.w.).

It was thought through Fatima (a.s.) that Allah (swt) assured the continuity of the Prophet's lineage, confounding the enemies who had taunted the Prophet as an abtar (The Qur'an, Al-Kawthar).  She was born at a time when the Arab used to bury their daughters alive out of shame for begetting a female child.  The Prophet (s.a.w) eradicated this social evil through the respect and reverence he showed his daughter.  He would stand up when she entered the room and would seat her next to him.  He would bid her farewell last when he went on a journey or a battle and would greet her first upon return.  He said,
"Fatima is part of me.  Whoever hurts her hurts me and whoever hurts me hurts Allah (swt). . ."   Yet, she was the target of the fire set to the door which was pushed onto her causing her grievous injury and the injury and death of her unborn son.

Fatimah Az-Zahra (s-a)
A perfect example of Infallibility:
A brief study on the essence of human virtue.

A brief study by: Brother Ali Ja’afary Stump.

“In the Name of ALLAH, the Beneficent, the Merciful”.

1.  INTRODUCTION :

When I first decided to write a brief study on a subject which would be related to Lady Fatimah Az-Zahra (s-a), I also wanted to touch the subject in a very deep way even though I wanted to keep it simple and in an article form (size). Naturally for me when I review and think back at the terrible tragedy that took place after our Holy Prophet Muhammad (saww) passed away and the ending period of the life of his most beloved daughter the Mistress of all women Lady Fatimah Az-Zahra (s-a), I cry and realize how far the Islamic Ummah drifted away from the fundamental message of Islam, to seek human perfection through human virtue (goodness) and become one of the true Pious. “Surely the noblest amongst you in the sight of ALLAH, is the most God fearing of you. ALLAH is the All-Knowing, the All-Aware”. (The Holy Qur’an 49 Al-Hujurat-13).

Third Infallible Sayings

  • Allah made the obedience of Muslims to us (Ahlul Bayt) as discipline for the Omma, and our leadership as safety from differences.

  • Praise and Eulogy is for Allah for the blessing and bounties which He has bestowed. And thanks to HIM upon what He revaluated (to His servants) And Praise is for HIM upon the common boons and blessings which He bestowed upon His servants without their request And upon the comprehensive and complete blessings which He granted to all and sundry and gave it to us, consecutively. Those graces and favors which are uncountable. And are irredeemable and uncompensatable due to their plentiful ness of number. And the imagination of their end is out of the reach of human mind. He invited the servant to thankfulness for the sake of the consecutive and continuous enhancement of blessings. And opened the door of eulogy and Praise (of Allah) upon them so that He may make his favors and beneficences great and plentiful for them.

Fatimah Az-Zahra (AS)
